Perk says AD, not D-Wade is the best teammate King James has ever had.
LeBron James has played alongside some of the most talented players in basketball history throughout his 21-year NBA career.
The dynamic duo of Dwyane Wade and James unlocked the NBA’s most explosive transition duo.
Kyrie Irving, paired with James, produced arguably the greatest NBA championship ever. Anthony Davis, as James’ sidekick, produced a historic 2020 Bubble run.
But which of Bron’s teammates was the best? The answer of former NBA big man and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins may surprise you.
Perkins boldly claims Davis is the greatest teammate James ever had
On Friday’s episode of ESPN’s First Take, Perkins said AD deserves to be recognized as LeBron’s best teammate, even over the man who’s almost undisputedly recognized as the third-best shooting guard ever in D-Wade.
“When it comes to [Anthony Davis], that is LeBron James’ best running mate of his career. There is no other player, in my opinion, that compliments him like Anthony Davis. When you think about that championship run [in 2020] — and yes, it was a bubble run – look at the numbers they were putting up. It was a match made in heaven,” Perk said.

“LeBron James averaged a triple-double in that Finals run. But [Davis] was [Shaquille O’Neal]. He was Shaq-type numbers in that paint. When it comes down to [James’] best teammate, Anthony Davis, in my eyes, is one of the most skilled power forwards to ever play the game of basketball. His impact on both ends of the floor is undeniable. He should be in the MVP conversation every season. He should be in the Defensive Player of The Year conversation every season,” Kendrick added.
While not outrageous, labeling Davis the best teammate of James is a controversial take. In the six seasons that LBJ and AD have been in tandem, they have only gone to one NBA Finals, which they won.
Before coming to Los Angeles, LeBron played with Irving. The duo went to three NBA Finals in a row and won a historic championship in 2016. However, the most accomplished James teammate was undeniably D-Wade.
Bron and Dwyane created the most iconic duo in the NBA since arguably Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. The Miami Heat duo led the franchise to four consecutive NBA Finals and back-to-back championships.
Was Perkins’ statement disrespectful to Wade?
Perk has been consistent with his views on Dwyane, even though many fans have criticized him for his opinions. In a recent interview with Scoop B, Kendrick not only gave Davis the nod over Wade as James’ best teammate but also ranked Irving above ‘The Flash.’
Putting Davis above Wade is debatable enough, but when Perkins said Kyrie was the best teammate James ever had, he was met with a storm of backlash. Unless LeBron comes out and declares his best running mate ever, fans will be left debating.
