Draymond Green has made plenty of headlines throughout his career, but this might be one of the most unusual.

In giving props to Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, who recently passed Karl Marlone for No. 2 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list,

the Warriors do-it-all playmaker said that he would be sure to attend the game where James passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer … even if it conflicted with a Warriors game.

“Congrats to LeBron, second all-time,” Green said this week on his podcast “The Draymond Green Show.”

“Probably in 50 or 70 games or so he’ll be first all time, and I can’t wait to see that. And I hope … Steve Kerr I’m throwing this out there right now, if LeBron James is passing the all-time scoring record and we have a game, I’m going to LeBron’s game and witness history. So, that’s what we’re doing Coach Kerr.”

LeBron currently has totaled 36,985 points in his career, trailing Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) by 1,402 points. LeBron, 37, is averaging 30 points per game this season for the struggling Lakers. At his current pace, he would pass Abdul-Jabbar in about 47 games – which would occur midway through the 2022-23 season.

Draymond and LeBron have developed a close bond in recent years, as both are Klutch Sports clients and each has effusively praised the other for their play on the court. This is a stark contrast to the rivalry between the two from years ago, when Draymond’s Warriors and LeBron’s Cleveland Cavaliers faced each other in the NBA Finals for four straight years from 2015 to 2018.
