Kevin Garnett drops eye-opening LeBron James take on Mavericks’ Luka Doncic

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has led his team to the NBA Finals after years of spectacular play, and NBA legend Kevin Garnett, speaking on KG Certified, thinks that he could ultimately compare to LeBron James.

“Luka is set up to be the only one to catch [LeBron James], don’t nobody wanna say that s**t,” Garnett said of Doncic.

With Luka’s immediate MVP-level impact, it’s reasonable to believe that the 25-year-old could put up some wild total numbers by the end of his career. But if he truly wants to “catch” LeBron, he’ll need to win a couple of NBA Championships.

This season, Doncic led the league in scoring, averaging 33.9 points per game. He also notched 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists a night–finishing third in NBA MVP voting.

There were initially questions about how Doncic would perform in the NBA Finals. After all, he was dealing with multiple injuries heading into his first ever NBA Finals appearance. Yet, Doncic has remained consistent for the most part despite dealing with a right knee sprain and left ankle soreness in addition to a thoracic contusion.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Mavericks star received a pain-killing injection before Game 2 of the NBA Finals. MacMahon also reports that Doncic is expected to receive similar treatment before Game 3 on Wednesday.

Concern increased after Doncic was downgraded from probable to questionable before Game 2. He still ultimately played and recorded a 32-point, 11-rebound, 11-assist triple-double. He added four steals as well. The Mavs were defeated 105-98 in the end, giving the Celtics a 2-0 series lead.

The remainder of the Mavs’ roster has endured trouble on the offensive end of the floor. Dallas is playing well on defense, but they need someone besides Doncic to step up on offense.

Doncic is going to do everything he can. He will probably continue to score 30 or more points while putting his teammates in position to succeed. Of course, the Mavericks need Kyrie Irving to find his form.

Luka’s backcourt mate is one of the best players in the NBA, but he has not played up to his usual standards in the series. The good news is that we are only two games into the NBA Finals. There is still plenty of time for Kyrie and the Mavericks to get things going offensively.
