Boxing news: Daniel Dubois praises heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua after victory against Andy Ruiz Jr…

Daniel Dubois heaped praise on newly crowned world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua after his convincing victory over Andy Ruiz Jr last weekend.

In the cool desert air in Saudi Arabia, Joshua regained his seat at the top of the food chain as he boxed the ears off his flabby foe.

After shedding weight and adopting a completely different style to his previous 22 fights, Joshua seemingly earned the respect of boxing critics and fans everywhere.

Although there were some fans who were baying for blood after witnessing the drama unfold in New York six months previously, Dubois had nothing but admiration for his compatriot.

Having only been taken the distance once in his career and with all four of his fights this calendar year failing to reach the sixth round, Dubois is not necessarily renowned for his patience when confronted with opposition.

But he had nothing but praise for Joshua after he took back his WBA, WBO and IBF titles at the first attempt.

“Yeah, it wasn’t one of the most exciting fights,” Dubois told talkSPORT.com. “But he got the victory.

“He boxed clever, boxed smart and took as little risk as possible so fair play to him.”

Still only 22, Dubois’ career progression is truly astounding and some comparison can be drawn to that of ‘AJ’.

‘Dynamite’ takes on Kyotaro Fujimoto on December 21 and, if victorious, will pick up his ninth belt in his 14th fight.

The WBC silver belt was previously held by Dillian Whyte and a victory at the Copper Box Arena would leave the Brit ranked with all four major boxing organisations.

During his British heavyweight title fight at the 02 Arena against Nathan Gorman Dubois demonstrated a lethal jab and boxing IQ which, given how quickly he has dispatched the majority of his opponents, fans were extremely impressed with.

His fight prior to that against Richard Lartey also showed fans he has tremendous heart, an amazing chin and the ability to trade blow-for-blow with power punchers.

Given the versatility the man from Greenwich has shown already, fans can expect to see plenty more ring craft and knockouts as he gains invaluable experience in his journey to the top.

“Yeah definitely, there’s a lot more to come,” he added.

“I’ll adapt to whatever style is put in front of me and pull out of my bag of tricks.”
