There is no doubt that Gervonta Davis is a genius in the ring, and his style merits close examination.
However, are we in a position to declare that the boxer from Baltimore has surpassed Terence Crawford in terms of in-ring performance?
Whether or not you agree with the opinion of artist-cum-commentator ShowBizz the Adult,
who links ‘Tank’ to Floyd Mayweather, he has highlighted certain characteristics of Davis that he feels surpass those of ‘Bud’. What are those?
According to ShowBizz the Adult, Davis possesses all the abilities that Terence Crawford has displayed in his fights. To illustrate his point, he referenced Gervonta Davis knocking out Rolly Romero in 2022. Near the end of the sixth round, Romero, having somewhat landed a right hook, overconfidently tried to push Davis against the ropes. With his right leg on the outside, ‘Tank’ caught Romero in a square stance with his left hand while angling out.
ShowBizz the Adult said, “Tank’s a better aggressive fighter than Crawford. He has everything Crawford has. He can box a fighter coming after him.” He also mentioned the Davis vs. Leo Santa Cruz fight. In this bout, Davis closed the distance, pushed Santa Cruz against the ropes, and allowed Santa Cruz to throw his right hand while Davis adjusted for a left uppercut. In an instant, the uppercut landed, and Cruz was floored.
ShowBizz added, “He can go after you and he can just box him. He knocks everybody out just like Crawford.” But there’s more: “Except for I think Gervonta’s chin is slightly better. When Terence Crawford goes out there, he’s going to beat you athletically, but there’s a certain poise that Gervonta has that is super special,” he continued.
“He has that Floyd Mayweather poise, where he doesn’t have to do much but still beats you mentally. Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis approaches the fight better than anyone in the world,” ShowBizz confidently concluded. In this context, it is worth mentioning that Davis has shown interest in fighting ‘Bud’ in the past.
Gervonta Davis wanted to hand ‘Bud’ the same fate suffered by Rolly and Santa Cruz
Last year, Gervonta Davis casually mentioned that if he fought Terence Crawford at 147 lbs, he would hand ‘Bud’ the same fate he delivered to Rolly and Santa Cruz, putting him “to sleep” in “round six.” In response, Crawford stated there was no way Davis would move up to 147 lbs, but he did not entirely dismiss the idea of a potential fight. “I’d stay at 147 lbs for him; that’s a big money fight,” he told The Breakfast Club.
“But nobody’s going to give me credit. Tank’s like 5’5”; he’s a little guy,” Crawford bemoaned. While fans were extremely curious, Davis later clarified that he was only joking and did not intend to actually face ‘Bud.’ With that said, do you agree with ShowBizz that Gervonta Davis is better than Crawford?
