Two fights ago, lightweight boxer Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (23-2-1, 16 KO’s) staged the most visible and influential bout of his career.

Despite the loss to Regular WBA champion Gervonta Davis, the quality of work that he supplied against Davis has placed him on the main stream boxing radar.

In his first follow-up match, Cruz dismantled and stopped the well-seasoned veteran Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Now, the hardnosed Mexican is looking for his next opponent. Feeling that he is one of the best, Cruz would certainly enjoy getting a shot at the crème of the 135-pound crop. Unsurprisingly, while recently fielding media questions,

Pitbull expressed his desire to test his skill against undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (28-0, 15 KO’s).

“I like Gervonta and Devin as potential opponents equally. If Devin wants to fight me then give me the chance to do so and I will gladly come out there and try to strip those titles away from him.”

FIGHT ME!
Being the come-forward, pressure fighter that he is, Cruz is not a great fan of Haney’s technical, safety-first style of combat. Yet, simply because it doesn’t suit his fancy this doesn’t mean that Pitbull has a lack of respect for it.

“In a fight against Devin Haney, I think that Devin is kind of a boring fighter, kind of like the Floyd Mayweather style of fighting. But in the end, I think it would be a great fight for everybody…Devin is a very capable counterpuncher, he is not easy to figure out at all! But I feel like we are prepared to figure him out, if needed.”

SOUNDS GOOD, BUT UNLIKELY
While Haney versus Cruz does sound like a fun potential action-fight on paper, there is not a high likelihood that they will meet up any time soon. At the present moment, Haney is preparing to go head-to-head with George Kambosos in their not so highly anticipated rematch. In their first duel, Haney easily out-boxed Kambosos to take all his trio of belts away.

Most foresee the same thing happening – that or a worse beating for the Australian bruiser. Assuming that Haney does get past Kambosos, there is also the great chance that he will move up in weight. If he does choose to remain in the division, there is as slim chance that The Dream would face Cruz, but chances are he would compete with someone higher up on the food chain.
