In his prime, Mike Tyson was a different specimen. It is safe to say that his explosiveness was not seen before in the ring.

The former two-time heavyweight champion built a reputation for having such tremendous knockout power, dropping opponents instantly. But it seems like Gervonta Davis thinks otherwise about the heavyweight. Not long ago, the lightweight made bold claims about being better than Mike Tyson.

Recently, in an interview, Davis opened up about making those claims. He further gave a reason for people who were criticizing him for claiming to be better than Mike Tyson.

Gervonta Davis stands firm on his words

Since making the remarks, he’s been experiencing backlash from fans. In an interview with FightHype, Gervonta Davis cleared the air around his claims of being better than Mike Tyson.

Davis said, “I think am more skilled than Mike Tyson. When I say I have more skills than Mike Tyson. There is no heavyweight ever to have more skills than smaller guys.” Davis believes that fighters from lower-weight classes are more skilled boxers than heavyweights. He added, “So, let’s take that out of the picture. Am, not dissing Mike Tyson.”

‘Tank’ further stated, “Facts are facts. I hold that punching power like Mike Tyson when he was fighting.” And, to end the conversation, he said, “And imma stand on my words.” It is worth mentioning that Gervonta Davis will face Ryan Garcia in one of the most anticipated lightweight bouts and Mike Tyson predicted the outcome of the bout in favor of Davis.

The similarity between Mike Tyson and Gervonta Davis

Despite the two being tens of pounds apart with respect to body weight, the two do have something in common. ‘Iron’ Mike was arguably the greatest knockout artist of his time and had the ability to knock out his opponents despite them being taller and stronger than the now 56-year-old. And Gervonta Davis shares similar traits with the heavyweight.

Gervonta Davis is a lightweight knockout artist. He has 28 wins, with 26 of them coming via knockouts. ‘Tank’ Davis’ knockout-to-win ratio is one of the all-time greatest. It must be said that both Tyson and Davis pack a punch, and are the top knockout artists in their respective divisions.
