Cooper Flagg snubs Steph Curry as point guard option on his all-time starting 5 & picks Lakers legend over Shaquille O’Neal

Potential 2025 No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg left out Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry from his all-time starting five.

Flagg was exposed to the stardom of the current NBA stars when he participated in the USA Select Team. Even after playing against Curry in a few scrimmages, the young prospect still didn’t name him in his all-time starting five.

Despite his young age, Flagg knows his basketball history as he named a few 1990s legends in past interviews. When selecting his all-time starting five, the youngster had a mix of past and present stars of the league.

“So we got Magic [Johnson] at the one, MJ at the two, Kobe [Bryant] at the three, LeBron [James] at the four and Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar] at the five,” Flagg said.

Interestingly, Flagg also left Shaquille O’Neal from his list and opted for Abdul-Jabbar as his all-time starting center.

The GOAT debate has been going on for quite some time now and people are divided in who they think is the best player. Some people think that due to his longevity in the league, LeBron James should be considered the greatest. However, others think that Michael Jordan is the GOAT.

Most incoming top prospects get a chance to share their thoughts on the matter. Cooper Flagg is the most recent prospect to share his take on the GOAT debate and surprised many with his answer. According to Flagg, the Chicago Bulls legend is the best player of all time.

He also named Kawhi Leonard as the best defender in the league. Given that he’s had the chance to play against him during scrimmages for Team USA, he’s had first-hand experience already. Flagg also showed love to San Antonio Spurs longtime head coach Gregg Popovich as the greatest coach.

While many were excited to see the best NBA players team up for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the young prospect stole the show. During the scrimmages, Flagg showed off his skills against some of the league’s top defenders. Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley was impressed with what he saw from the Duke player.

“He’s a special young man. His talent level, his basketball IQ, his level of toughness, not afraid of those moments, protect the rim, make the right play, make the right read. He had all that.”
Fans will get to see more of what he can do this season with Duke.
