“The Mexicans Don’t Like Him”: Edgar Berlanga Makes Bold Claims About Canelo Alvarez Following LA Press Conference

Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga faced off for the second time at a recent press conference in Los Angeles, and the intensity was palpable.

The face-off was charged with animosity, as the fighters exchanged sharp insults, making it clear that they are fierce rivals.

If the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico showdown on September 14 wasn’t already highly anticipated, Berlanga’s provocative remarks after the presser have certainly raised the stakes even higher.

The duo will compete for Canelo’s WBA, WBO, and WBC super middleweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where Canelo’s last three fights have transpired. Regardless, having exchanged words with Canelo, Berlanga appeared in an interview with Fight Hub TV, where the reporter quickly probed him about the mockery he faced from Canelo during the presser, which led to Berlanga calling Canelo Alvarez “a person who eats s**t.”

Speaking to the reporter, Berlanga revealed that Canelo Alvarez always had that side of him hidden, which is why “the Mexicans don’t like him.” Apparently, Berlanga is a frequent traveler to Mexico, so he claimed he has the inside scoop. “I go to Mexico a lot, they don’t like him, they like us. They call him [Spanish term], which means a person who eats s**t,” ‘The Chosen One’ said.

When the reporter asked him why that might be the case, Berlanga blamed Canelo’s enormous wealth and the way he treats people. “He got all the money. He got 40-50 million, 100 million, 200 million but money [doesn’t] make you,” Berlanga said. Per the 27-year-old, the real personality of a boxer reflects in “how you treat the minorities, the people that don’t [have] nothing, the janitor.”

Before the fight, Berlanga was the WBA’s number one contender for Canelo Alvarez, who chose to face him instead of responding to the public’s demand for a bout with David Benavidez, the WBC mandatory challenger. While the WBC is willing to wait for Canelo to fight Benavidez on his own timeline, the IBF is not as patient and recently stripped the former undisputed champion of his title. Nonetheless, three additional fights have been added to the Canelo vs. Berlanga card.

The undercard for the September 14 fight between Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga is looking seriously exciting. In the co-main event, WBA middleweight champ Erislandy Lara will be defending his title against former two-weight world champ Danny Garcia. Lara, who’s still going strong at 41, wants to keep his impressive streak going, while Garcia is aiming for a big comeback after a two-year break.

Also on the card, Caleb Plant will face Trevor McCumby for the WBA interim super middleweight title. Plant, a former IBF champ, is out to bounce back from his losses against Canelo and Benavidez, while McCumby, who’s undefeated so far, is looking to make a name for himself. And don’t miss Rolly Romero’s return to the ring against Manuel Jaimes. Romero, who lost his WBA super lightweight title earlier this year, will be up against Jaimes, a rising fighter with a solid record. Expect some thrilling matches with high stakes!

It appears that the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga event is shaping up to be quite the watch. Whether it’s the animosity between Canelo and Berlanga or the absolutely stacked undercard, everything points to a night of boxing brilliance.
