Jake Paul has revealed that his mother, Pam, is anxious about his upcoming fight against Mike Tyson. The YouTuber-turned-boxer is set to face the legendary fighter on November 15 in Texas, a bout that has drawn considerable scrutiny due to the significant age difference between the two.
Paul, 27, disclosed that his mother is particularly nervous after watching Tyson’s intense training clips. “They will definitely be there,” Paul said of his mum and girlfriend Jutta Leerdam.
“But my mum is very scared actually. She keeps on asking me if I’m ready, asking my team if I’m ready, and she’s not liking this one. Mike just looks scary and big… his Instagram videos look crazy. So she’s like watching all of that and just not liking it.”
Tyson had initially been scheduled to fight Paul on July 20 but had to withdraw due to a stomach ulcer, which fueled further controversy surrounding the fight. Paul defended the match, saying, “I don’t get it at all. But I also don’t understand people in general, like people are dumber than a box of rocks. I don’t expect them to understand fighting or gain experience or the honor to step into the ring with a legend. These people probably don’t even know what honor is or respect or passion or doing legendary s***.”
Paul also noted the significance of the fight, emphasizing the involvement of Netflix and Tyson’s desire for it to be a professional bout. “If Uncle Mike is down then so am I,” Paul added.
Paul recently hosted the Professional Fighters League press conference ahead of Francis Ngannou’s MMA return fight against Renan Ferreira on October 19. Ngannou, who was coached by Tyson in the past, has expressed confidence in Tyson’s ability to defeat Paul.
Despite his confidence, Paul acknowledged the challenge ahead: “I love it. It’s not gonna be an easy fight. I think the first four rounds are gonna be very difficult. And if I can weather the storm of Mike Tyson, the baddest man, hardest puncher on the planet, then I believe I can pull ahead in the later rounds and be able to stop him actually. But, Francis is not wrong. I often times get scared of that one punch and I have to be alert the whole time.”
