Tim & Dee TV, the creators behind Haliey Welch’s viral “Hawk Tuah” interview, are speaking out after the internet personality shut down rumors she was suing them on Oct. 6.

“As far as we know, that’s her plan [to sue],” the creators exclusively tell PEOPLE, claiming that Welch hired a second attorney who “contacted [them] about sending a letter,” adding that they are “still waiting to hear back.”

Earlier this week, rumors began swirling that Welch was suing after DeArius Marlow — one of the creators of Tim and Dee TV on YouTube — alluded to it in a TikTok video posted on Oct. 3. In the clip, he also claimed that he would be “dropping a backstory vid on YouTube with all the receipts.”

Shortly after, the 22-year-old internet star shared several posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) that clarified she was not suing the creators, calling it “fake news.” In another post, she added, “If I sued it would be public but I guess clout is being chased 🤣.”

In their exclusive statement to PEOPLE, the creators behind Tim & Dee TV reacted to Welch calling them “clout chasers.”

“We’ve supported her from the beginning, even through negative comments,” they continue. “It’s not fair for her to shed a bad light on us after we helped her become successful. But the truth will come to light soon.”

Welch first went viral back in June after she was featured in a man-on-the-street interview from Tim & Dee TV. Her quirky sex tip in response to one of their questions ended up catapulting her to fame and earned her the “Hawk Tuah Girl” nickname across the internet.

When Welch spoke exclusively with PEOPLE in September, she recalled how she was “embarrassed to death” to leave her house “for two weeks” after the clip went viral. Welch also alleged that Marlow “blocked” her and her friends after they asked him to stop posting other clips from her initial interview.

Welch also told PEOPLE that the creators did try to reach out to her after she went viral, but she didn’t want to talk to them.

Welch’s interview has amassed over 8 million views on YouTube since it was posted in June and allowed her to quit her job at a spring factory.

Since then, she’s pursued other opportunities like hosting the Talk Tuah podcast, which has been ranked No. 1 for comedy interviews on Apple Podcasts.
