Adrian Wojnarowski Defends Bronny James From Nepotism Claims

Adrian Wojnarowski doesn’t think Bronny James should be criticized for benefitting from nepotism given how rampant it is in the NBA.

Adrian Wojnarowski got real on the criticism Bronny has been facing after being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th pick.

Fans are mocking Bronny for not earning his Draft spot because he’s LeBron James, but Woj made it clear that it is unfair to hate on Bronny for being a product of nepotism.

“I don’t want to hear these charges—people talking about nepotism. The NBA is full of nepotism: the ownership level, front offices, coaching. I don’t want to hear it all of a sudden because Bronny James’ father plays for the Lakers. It is rampant in this league.”

Adrian Wojnarowski Defends Bronny James From Nepotism Claims

Nepotism is nothing new in the NBA, and there are so many beneficiaries of it in the NBA right now that fans are pointing out how the Knicks are essentially an organization full of nepotism.

“I find the Lakers’ nepotism unseemly. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to congratulate Leon Rose, who used to be the agent of Rick Brunson, who is an assistant coach and the father of Jalen Brunson, whose godfather is Leon Rose and whose agent is Sam Rose, on reviving the Knicks.”

Being the son of an NBA player is more likely to get you drafted than going to a school like Kentucky or Duke, so we’ve always known the power of nepotism in the NBA. Even the greatest shooter of all time is a product of nepotism.

Rob Pelinka Is Excited To See Bronny James On The Lakers
The Lakers used the No. 55 pick on Bronny, a pick so late in the Draft that many consider it a throwaway pick in most seasons. The name being selected is the son of the greatest player in the last 20 years, so naturally, it’s led to intrigue. Rob Pelinka showered Bronny with praise after drafting him.

“Bronny is first and foremost a person of high character and second he is a young man who works incredibly hard. Those are the qualities we look for in drafting players. He did a great draft workout with us where he displayed those qualities to me in an hour lunch we shared in the building.”

Pelinka is excited about the basketball opportunity for Bronny on the Lakers, citing how he’s worked for everything he’s gotten and praising his high work ethic.

“Once we got to know each other it became clear he’s a man of character and in terms of his work ethic, I think we’ve all seen that worked out too. He’s not a person who is taking shortcuts or is entitled to basketball opportunities. He’s worked for everything he’s gotten, including being selected today. So, it’s an honor for us to add him to our program.”

Bronny averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game on 36% shooting for the USC Tigers last season. He won’t be a rotational player for the Lakers to start the season, but whenever he shares the court with his father, the pair will make history as the first father-son duo to play in the NBA simultaneously.
