Anthony Davis Says He Still Gets Excited Walking Into Lakers’ Arena Before Games

Anthony Davis reflected on his time in the NBA and said the challenges of the league still keep him motivated at the highest level.

Anthony Davis spoke recently about his time in the NBA and his future in the league. While speaking on the ‘Join The Lobby’ podcast, AD opened up about the journey so far, and how he still is in disbelief sometimes of how long he has been in the league.

Despite his lengthy stint in the NBA so far, he still loves it and finds excitement at the idea of continuing to play the game at the highest level (1:23:03 onwards).

“Obviously, I’ve been blessed to play this long, going on year 13. It’s a blessing…I’m about to have 13 years. When this contract is up, I’ll be 17 years in the league… I still love it. I want to play long enough where my sons can enjoy it. My daughter is enjoying it, she’s old enough, I want my sons to be able to enjoy it.”

“As long as I keep enjoying the game, keep loving the game, excited to go to work. I still get excited, I’m still nervous before every game like ‘Damn’. I look forward to play all matchups, I look forward to going on the road and being in other arenas and they’re booing you. That still excites me. Running out into Crypto, and everybody… the bright lights still amaze me. As long as that is still there – my passion for the game, and my body, I’m going to keep going till they tell me I can’t.”

Davis clearly has a deep love for the game that is far from dwindling anytime soon. While there have been criticisms leveled at AD in the past for his level or even quality of play, no one can accuse of him not giving a 100% when he is on the court.

Anthony Davis Reminded The NBA Of His Level Last Year

Since joining the Lakers, one of the biggest criticism of Anthony Davis had been his injury problems, and how he couldn’t stay fit consistently, and that was hurting the Lakers. Between the 2020-21 season and the 2022-23 season, Anthony Davis missed 102 out of a possible 236 games, meaning he only played 134 games in that stretch, a mere 57% of his games.

Last season, AD proved many of the doubters wrong by playing 76 games, the most games he has played in a single season in his entire career. Davis also played sensational basketball during the season, averaging 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game.

But the Lakers would suffer defeat once again in the playoffs at the hands of the Nuggets. Despite the Lakers playing much better in this series than they did in the Western Conference Finals the year before, the Nuggets made some big shots in clutch moments to secure the series for themselves.

The Lakers will hope to run it back next season, under new leadership. After UConn head coach Dan Hurley rejected their advances, the Lakers will be in the market for a new coach.

Recently, it was reported that LeBron James asked the Lakers to tailor the new head coach hunt based on what Anthony Davis wanted rather than him. Perhaps next year, it is time for Davis to establish the Lakers as his team and become the true leader of the franchise.
