Floyd Mayweather is among the six potential opponents being considered for KSI’s next fight. KSI, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, was set to make his return on August 31 but had to withdraw due to a hand injury.
However, he is aiming for a comeback next year, with discussions already in progress to secure a high-profile opponent.
KSI’s manager, Mams Taylor, who co-founded Misfits Boxing with him, hinted that the opponent will be a superstar with a formidable reputation. Speaking to SunSport, Taylor said, “It’s gonna be someone big, someone who’s a challenge, someone who people will think is impossible for a YouTuber to beat. And I think that’s what KSI loves. He loves overcoming the odds, he loves the challenge. He loves proving people wrong.”
KSI, 31, has not fought since his controversial decision loss to Tommy Fury, 25, in October. Before his injury, KSI was scheduled to face TikToker Slim Albaher and ex-MMA fighter Anthony Taylor in an unconventional two-on-one match. Prior negotiations for a fight with retired British boxing champion Amir Khan fell through, but Khan, 37, and Mayweather, 47, remain top contenders for KSI’s next bout.
Taylor confirmed, “Amir is on the hit-list, Floyd is on the hit list for KSI. These are two out of 5/6 guys that we’re all looking at very closely.”
Mayweather officially retired in 2017 after his victory over UFC star Conor McGregor, but he has continued to participate in exhibition matches against opponents from various backgrounds, including social media personalities, MMA fighters, and boxers—one of whom was KSI’s brother, Deji. KSI was displeased with Mayweather’s approach during the fight with his inexperienced brother, and he is seeking redemption in the ring.
Taylor noted, “I mean, he was technically the best defensive boxer in history and arguably ever all around. And it’d be an honour to work with him in that capacity with JJ and him if that ever happens. And to be honest with you, that was how Deji was thinking, I’m a promoter. I can say that. Deji was in awe of Floyd, KSI wouldn’t be in awe of Floyd. KSI wants his revenge for the way he treated his brother.”
