Have the Milwaukee Bucks fired Darvin Ham a week after appointing ex-Lakers coach as Doc Rivers’ assistant? Debunking viral tweet

Darvin Ham’s second tour of duty as part of the Milwaukee Bucks coaching staff was seemingly short-lived as he was reportedly fired by the team just a week after being named lead assistant of head coach Doc Rivers. The alleged report, which came out on Tuesday, cited FOX Sports analyst Christ Broussard as the source:

Milwaukee Bucks: Have the Milwaukee Bucks fired Darvin Ham a week after appointing ex-Lakers coach as Doc Rivers' assistant? Debunking viral tweet

“The Milwaukee Bucks have fired assistant coach Darvin Ham, per @Chris_Broussard”

However, the report does not appear to be true as it was posted by the parody account NBA Centel.

NBA Centel is known for posting fake news stories and videos for entertainment purposes. The account’s name and logo are similar to the account NBA Central, which is a reliable source of NBA news. NBA Centel explicitly says on its X bio that it is a parody account and is not affiliated with NBA Central.

Broussard has not posted about Ham’s supposed firing on his X account. Moreover, there has been no announcement from the Bucks nor Ham on his firing, just a week after agreeing to rejoin the team he helped win the 2021 NBA title as part of the bench staff of former head coach Mike Budenholzer.

Darvin Ham spent the previous two seasons coaching LeBron James and the LA Lakers, whom he guided to back-to-back playoff appearances, including a Western Conference finals appearance in 2023. He also steered them to the first-ever NBA In-Season Tournament title in the just-concluded season.

Now back in Milwaukee, Ham is counted on to provide his coaching experience to a team that finished with a 49-33 record in the 2023-24 campaign. The Bucks exited in the first round of the playoffs no thanks to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard going down with injuries.

Darvin Ham moving on from roller-coaster ride with the LA Lakers

The LA Lakers’ coaching journey of Darvin Ham came to an end after two seasons. It was a period that he said was not smooth sailing throughout, but he was nonetheless grateful for it.

Following their first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, Ham spoke about the stint he had with the purple and gold, saying, by way of Lakers Nation:

“It’s been a hell of a two years, I’ll tell you that. Sitting in this seat, it’s been a hell of a two years. Lot of good things that got done, but ulitmately you want to win the ultimate prize.”

He added:

“I’m not gonna feel sorry for myself or ourselves. It’s an unbelievable franchise to represent… But I’ve seen a lot in my first two years in this seat, so I’ll continue to work, get better and control what I can control.”

Ham was dismissed as Lakers coach back in May. It was his first NBA head coaching job after stints as an assistant with the Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, and the Bucks.

He was an NBA champion as a player with the Detroit Pistons in 2004.
