‘NOT AS MUCH MONEY AS HE SAYS’ Floyd Mayweather Speaks Out Over Eddie Hearn’s Doubts Over $1bn Fortune During His Career

EDDIE HEARN has raised doubts about Floyd Mayweather’s fortune.

Mayweather has affectionately called himself Money throughout his career, and perhaps that’s fitting given his massive earnings.

He topped Forbes’ list of the decade’s richest people in 2019, earning more than £700MILLION in the ring.

But Mayweather has been repeatedly accused of blowing through his fortune since retiring.

And his recent series of exhibition fights with stars from boxing, MMA and social media have done little to dispel those claims.

Even British promoter Hearn has questioned Mayweather’s fortune and decided to continue his boxing career.

“I don’t think he has the money he says he does, that’s what I think,” he told GRM Daily.

“I don’t think he needs the money but you know, when you have that kind of lifestyle, he’s going to spend what he spends.”

Mayweather, 47, officially retired in 2017 after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor, 36, in an exhibition bout that reportedly earned him £300m.

But he has continued to fight in exhibition bouts since, most recently in June last year when he took on the nephew of notorious crime boss John Gotti.

Gotti III was knocked out in the sixth round, sparking a post-fight brawl in the ring that led to a rematch in Mexico on August 24.

And Mayweather has revealed he could have at least three more spectacular fights after that.

He said: “We just got the call about a three-show exhibition deal and that’s a crazy number.

“If I was being abused and beaten up I think I would have quit.”

Mayweather, who once owned an £18m watch, insists he doesn’t fight for money.

“Am I doing it for money? Absolutely not. I do it because this is what I want to do. I’m not miserable,” he said.

“And everyone loves it, my team loves it and it’s great to be able to go to different places, train and shake hands with people from all walks of life.”
