Tyson Fury has been given a straightforward yet effective strategy by his friend and former champion Billy Joe Saunders to reclaim victory in his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury, who suffered his first professional loss to Usyk in May, is set for a highly anticipated rematch on December 21. Saunders believes that if Fury follows a specific game plan, he could easily defeat Usyk.
Saunders, speaking to talkSPORT, emphasized that no one can outbox Usyk, but Fury has the tools to overpower him using his physical advantages. He stated, “Tyson Fury can beat Usyk three times in one night with one simple game plan. It’s very, very simple how to beat him. You have to use your size. You have to use your physical advantages. Every attribute you have you need to use to full effect with this man.”
In the first encounter, Fury started strong, taking an early lead before Usyk rallied in the later rounds to secure a historic win, becoming the first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion. Fury later claimed the fight was “TOO EASY,” which led him to switch off mentally—a sentiment Saunders agreed with, noting that the first five rounds were more like a sparring session for Fury.
Saunders also hinted that there were issues in Fury’s preparation for the first fight, but he assured that these will be addressed in the upcoming training camp, which he will join. He remains confident in Fury’s ability to bounce back, predicting not only a victory but a knockout win for the British star in the rematch.
As Saunders prepares for his own comeback after a defeat to Canelo Alvarez in 2021, he continues to support his friend Fury, backing him to avenge his only loss and reclaim his status as a heavyweight champion.
