Photo of Caitlin Clark’s Eye After Hit to the Face Alarms WNBA Fans

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever found themselves in a physical battle against the Connecticut Sun in the first round of the WNBA playoffs on Sunday.

During the first half of Game 1 in Connecticut, Clark was poked in the eye by Sun star DiJonai Carrington. After Clark was poked in the eye, the rookie hit the deck and was seen holding her face.

While Clark was checked by her teammates and potentially by the medical staff on the sideline, she was deemed okay to play.

Following the play, one fan posted a picture of Clark on social media with the caption “WHAT,” and Fever reporter Chloe Peterson, who was in attendance for Game 1, mentioned that a black eye was forming on Clark’s right eye.

Here’s a look at the play that caused the bruising:

WNBA fans were immediately worried about Clark’s eye, commenting on the photo.

“I can’t brlieve that was a no call,” said one fan

“Looks like it’s getting worse too.” mentioned one fan.

“And they didn’t even call it, man it’s not a good look for wnba,” said one fan.

“and they didn’t even call it a foul.” commented one fan.

Clark struggled in the 93-69 loss, finishing the game with 11 points, four rebounds and eight assists.

The rookie had a solid showing on the defensive end, posting one block and three steals, but Clark shot 24.5% from the field.

Clark entered the playoffs averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game. She led the 2024 rookie class in average points and led the WNBA in average assists.

The Fever will look to bounce back in Game 2 on Wednesday, Indiana’s elimination game. If they were to extend the series, Game 3 would be played in Indiana.
