KSI has vowed to be significantly more prepared for a potential rematch against Tommy Fury, having identified his previous mistake as the key to his defeat.
The boxing, music, and YouTube star suffered his first professional loss last October to Fury in a controversial decision.
KSI was scheduled to face both social media star Slim Albaher and ex-MMA fighter Anthony Taylor in a two-on-one bout this Saturday. However, he had to withdraw due to a hand injury that also affected his preparation for the Fury fight.
Reflecting on his loss to Fury, KSI admitted that coming in undersized was his biggest error. “I wouldn’t want to make any excuses against me and Tommy,” KSI told SunSport. “I think – but this is again my fault – it was the weight. I should have fought him at a weight that I was really comfortable in.”
He explained that he struggled to meet the 185lb weight limit for the bout: “Whereas now I’m in a position where I’m happy to be at 185 and I’m not gonna struggle to try and get to it. I remember when I had to weigh in, I had to drink a load of water just to try and make the weight just to get on the scale and hit 185. I was very light when I was fighting Tommy. Whereas now, I’ve decided to put on a lot more muscle, get a bit bigger, stronger. And I feel like if we were to have a rematch, I’d just do ten times better.”
KSI, 31, has now ruled out a boxing return until 2025 to properly recover from his hand injury. He stated, “I’m thinking hopefully Q1 of next year. I think that’s what we’re looking to aim at. Any time this year probably just doesn’t make sense. The longer I let it heal, the better for the future rather than rushing back into fighting again and getting injured again.”
In the meantime, KSI will continue to engage with his fans through music. He will perform at a sold-out event at the 3Arena in Dublin and will also be commentating during the event. “After I got injured, I was just like, how can I still be a part of this next Misfits?” he said. “So I thought, why not just perform. My audience still gets to see me perform, obviously not boxing, but doing music. I’m still gonna be commentating during the event as well as performing some new songs and old songs. Overall, it’s gonna be a good event.”
